Furniture Dismantling and Reassembly: What Should Be Included

Dismantling and reassembly sounds like a single line item on a quote, but the scope varies a lot between companies. Some include it fully, some charge per item, and some only handle a narrow list of furniture types, leaving anything unusual as your problem to solve on move day.

What's usually included as standard

  • Beds, including bed frames with fitted slats
  • Wardrobes, both flat-pack and solid wood
  • Dining tables with removable legs
  • Standard flat-pack furniture (IKEA-style units, shelving)

What often gets treated as an exception

  • Built-in or custom wardrobes fixed to the wall
  • Majlis seating and large sectional sofas with non-standard fixings
  • Wall-mounted TVs and their brackets
  • Home gym equipment or anything requiring tools beyond a standard kit

None of these are unreasonable to charge extra for, they genuinely take more time and sometimes specialist tools. The problem is when they're not mentioned until move day, after the quote has already been agreed on the assumption that everything was covered.

Questions to ask before you book

Walk through your furniture list item by item with whoever gives you the quote, specifically flagging anything built-in, oversized, or unusual. A company that dismantles furniture regularly will know immediately which items are standard and which need a specialist rate, and will tell you upfront rather than discovering it with tools already out on move day.

Reassembly matters as much as dismantling

Taking furniture apart is the easy half. Reassembly done properly means every wardrobe door aligns, every bed frame is fully tightened, and nothing is left "good enough for now". Ask whether reassembly happens the same day as delivery or is scheduled separately, some companies deliver flat-packed and leave reassembly for a follow-up visit, which is worth knowing before move day, not after.

A reasonable standard to expect

Standard furniture dismantling and reassembly should be included in a villa or apartment moving quote without a separate line item. Anything genuinely unusual, built-in units, oversized gym equipment, custom fittings, is fair to quote separately, as long as it's flagged before the day, not discovered on it.
